Dutch Apple Pie Recipe Food Network, the expected meat pie topped with thedough crust. amish dutch pot pie is a cross between a soup and a stew with adoughy rich egg noodle cooked in a rich meat broth. you can make a beef chickenor ham pot pie and they are all delicious! today i'm showing you a beefand chicken pot pie and the basics are

the same. you want to start out with arich meat broth. i'm slow cooking a beef chuck roast and some whole chickenbreasts with some veggies, seasoning well with some salt and pepper and filling tothe top with water and letting that cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. after about sevenhours i removed the meat and veggies, strained the broth and chilled. oncechilled i skimmed the fat off the top and i have 12 cups of a beautiful, rich beef andchicken broth for my amish pot pie. next are the pot pie noodles which areegg noodles. i have two cups of flour and adding a half a teaspoon of salt andgiving that a good whisk. and now i'm adding a tablespoon of shortening and i'm just cutting this into the flour with my

hands until it is fine. you can use afork. my family recipe calls for two to four eggs and i usually use all foureggs and these are large. i am using four eggs in the beef pot pie and two eggsin the chicken pot pie. we like the pot pie noodles with a rich egg flavorbut you can adjust to your liking. the eggs will also make the noodles firm in texture and a nice yellow color. i'm mixing everything together until itforms a soft dough. depending on the size and liquid in your eggs you may need toadd a little water or extra flour to help bring it all together. just add a littleat a time. your dough should be on the sticky side because you will be addingflour when you roll out the dough.

you can cover and refrigerate until you'reready. i have 12 cups of homemade broth... bringing up to heat. and i'm adding a cup of diced onions, carrots and some salt and black pepper. you can add celery if you wish. bringing that up to a simmer and cookfor 15 minutes and in the meantime i'm going to roll out the dough and cut mynoodles. i have a very well floured surface andflouring my rolling pin to make sure nothing sticks. just start rolling outthe dough and you're gonna find that it's very soft and easy to work with. just make sure that you have both sidesof the dough well floured. rolling the

dough out about an eighth of an inchthick. every now and then lift the edges to make sure nothing is sticking. i have awell floured pizza cutter that i'm using to cut the noodles. you can usea knife. this just makes the job easier and quicker. i'm cutting the noodles intoabout an inch and a half to two inch square pieces.....mmm, roughly. you don't have tobe perfect. this is a homemade rustic dish. this is traditionally the size andshape of the noodles but you can cut any size or shape you want, again, it's all inpreference. you can find this recipe and the list ofingredients in the description box below. if you like this pennsylvania dutchamish pot pie recipe, please remember to

skins on. bringing back up to a goodsimmer and cooking for 20 to 30 minutes and every now and then i'm gonna comeback and give it a good stir. the kitchen is smelling wonderful! remember to taste test for seasonings andat the last five minutes you want to add your cooked meat. i roughly pulled themapart in nice sized pieces. give it a good stir to heat the meat through and it'sready to eat! i am serving tonight with a little fresh parsley on top. i rememberthis pot pie as a sunday afternoon meal. one of those meals that is delicious, satisfying, comforting, relaxing and then you are ready to watch tv and take a nap. it isalso yummy warmed up the next day.
