What Is A Network Adapter

hello, and thanks for watching this videofrom tutorial techie. today i am going to show you how to setup an internal networkon a oracle vm virtualbox. although this process is fairly easy, i have had a fair number ofstudents who have had difficulty with networking within virtualbox, so i felt this video wasnecessary. internal networks are wonderful if you want to keep your virtual machinesseparated from your host machine and the internet.

What Is A Network Adapter

What Is A Network Adapter, one disadvantage of internal networks thoughis that no dhcp server is used. so, you will have to manually assign ip addresses. if youwant to use an adapter that does not allow your virtual machines to connect to the internet, but does contain a dhcp server, i would recommend the host-only adapter. in this internal networki would like a windows 7 machine and a windows

server 2008 machine to be able to communicatewith one another. however, like with all internal networks, i do not want the host machine,or the outside world (the internet) to be able to communicate with either of these virtualmachines. lets start with the windows 7 machine. i will click on it, click settings and scrolldown and click on network. under network i can see that currently nat is the networkadapter that is enabled. i am going to change this to internal network. i will then clickon advanced to open up the advanced menu. the adapter type is good, with the intel pr/1000mt desktop selected so i am going to leave that as it is. but i am going to go aheadand refresh the mac address, just to make sure that i have a new mac address or onethat is unique to this virtual machine that

no other virtual machine will have. i willclick ok to finish my windows 7 setup and now i am going to do this same this to thewindows server 2008 machine. so i will click on the machine, click on settings scroll downand click on network. notice that i am currently attached to the bridged adapter, i need tochange this to the internal network. when i change this to the internal network thename is "intnet", which is the same as the internal network name on my windows 7 machine.this is important because it will allow both the windows 7 machine and the windows server2008 machine to communicate with one another. if the names of the internal networks aredifferent, the virtual machines on those different networks will not be able to communicate withone another. i am going to expand this advanced

menu and i am actually going to change theadapter type for the server to the intel pro/1000 mt server adapter. i have found this adapterworks great in server 08 and it is nice to have something different in my server 08 machinecompared to my windows 7 machine. i refresh the mac address a few time just to make surethis is a unique mac address for this virtual machine and that no other virtual machineon the network has the same mac address. and i can just click ok. well that is going todo it for the setup of this internal network, i hope you enjoyed this tutorial. thanks forwatching!
